Anyone interested in putting his rig on the dyno? The normal rates at Track Masters in · $60 Baseline 3 Pulls. · $80 Baseline 3 Pulls. Wideband Air/Fuel Included · $100/hr Customer Tunes. Wideband Air/Fuel Included If we show up with 5 – 10 vehicles he’ll drop the charge for three pulls to $50.00. If we show up with over 10 rigs he’ll drop it to $45.00. They will open up for us on a Saturday. I haven’t addressed the rates for baseline pulls plus air/fuel or customer tunes. If enough people show an interest in doing this, I’ll pursue it further. If you look at their web site it says 2wd vehicles only but this is only addressing Come on out and strut your stuff. Didn’t you always want to know what that cold air intake and throttle body spacer really does for you? Edited by mdmTJ - 21 December 2009 at 8:21am |

I would like to see how the 3RZ I just swapped in my '84 would compare a 22R. Either way, it would be funny to see a 4cyl toyota on a dyno.

My 2.4 Tacoma put down 126 hp and 144 torque when I ran it on the dyno at UTI. Yes I have a picture of it making a pull. Still have the dyno sheet. The funny thing is that stock truck put out more that all those kids with the Honda civics ever did.
I'd like to see cj8lvr put Todd's 8 on the dyno, after a little break in time.

Awesome, count me in! Just finished breaking in the new engine and need to dial in the mixture & timing.
I would want the WB AF monitoring.

That's three. A couple more and I'll check on a group rate for the air/fuel monitoring and tuning. Kyle, all you need to do is find two rims and tires that would let you fit. You can swap them out there if you didn't want to drive with them. I'm sure one of us could bring a decent floor jack to help with the wheel swapping. It looks like we could get in any Saturday in January except the 2nd and 23rd. I don't believe we need a "group" to schedule for a Saturday. What dates work for you guys. I know there are more of you out there that are curious about what your squirrel cage is putting out. Edited by mdmTJ - 22 December 2009 at 2:33am |

It looks like I'm free all but the last weekend in January.
Never been on a dyno with any vehicle so I don't know what to expect or what is offered with the 2nd and 3rd packages. What do the wideband air/fuel and customer tune features refer to? Is this just a tweak of mixtures and tuning while it's on the dyno?

So we could be looking at 9 or 16 Jan? Either would work for me.
I'll get more info on the Wideband A/F but if you are interested in something other than the base pulls I'd suggest you speak directly with Arthur at Track Masters (539-0398). That way nothing gets lost in the translation and you get direct answers to your questions. Please share any info you get. It does appear that the tuning is engine specific.

Their primary customer base the high performance go faster crowd so your Mustang would be right at home.

I *just* got the remaining parts for going edis on my 22R. I'd probably need until mid January and then I need tuning time instead of HP pulls. If things work out just wrong I could do a HP pull before upgrades just as a baseline. So either way I should be considered a strong maybe.
Would the $50 price get wideband O2 readouts as well? If so I'll plumb a spare pre-cat O2 port specifically for this purpose.

If you are interested in anything other that the base pulls and wideband A/F monitoring it would be better if you spoke with them yourself. When you get into the tuning aspects there are too many variables out there.
No. $50.00 will just cover the three baseline pulls. Wideband A/F monitoring is an additional $20.00. The shop is now closed for Christmas but when they open back up I will see if we can get a group price reduction for the A/F monitoring.
My calibrated eyeballs tell me you are a tad over their 81” wheel track limit. You’ve got a rear locker, right? Do you suppose they would let you put one rear wheel on the roller, remove the other wheel, and put that end of the axle on a jack stand? Hmmm, interesting thought. Again, if you want to do any tuning, I don’t want to get in the middle of that conversation. There’s too much of a chance details will get muddled in the translation. When they open back up after Christmas, I’ll get some more info on pricing and schedule this for 16 Jan. Edited by mdmTJ - 23 December 2009 at 4:14am |

Just how badly do I want this? Hmmm

Case should provide some good baseline 4.0 numbers.
How is that 4.6 running, significant performance gain? Have you done any custom tuning, or just increased the injector size?

I was glad Case jumped in. His TJ would give some stock numbers but there have been some minor changes between '00 and '06. Doc's TJ is a '01 which is more like mine used to be. The engine is running strong. I feel more power but the rig sat with no engine for five months and it had 175,000 miles on it before it quit on me so I'm not real sure how the calibration is on my butt dyno. My butt dyno calibration is what started this whole quest. I haven't done any custom tuning and am still running the stock injectors and stock throttle body. I don’t want to mess with any tuning or other changes until I get a feel for where I am now. I do have a bit of a lifter tick which is really ticking me off. To get the lifters out on the 4.0L you have to pull the head back off. |

With stock injectors and tune I imagine you're running fairly lean in the top end, might want to avoid WOT runs until get it strapped to the dyno and monitor the AF. That also means there's probably a fair bit of power left on the table from what you feel now.
Before you rip the head back off, you may want to pull the valve cover and verify the pre-load on each lifter (~0.020 - 0.060in past zero lash). Assuming you're using the stock cam and made no changes that would impact valvetrain geometry this shouldn't be an issue, but it's worth checking for piece of mind.

I've got a friend with a "not so" street legal mustang he wouldn't mind getting on a dyno. He's got to fix a head gasket but said he could have it ready by then if it's ok that he's not a member of the club.

I’ll try to get in touch with the shop this morning to set the date and get some questions resolved. I’m still going to shoot for 16 Jan. His shop is normally closed on Saturdays but he will open up by appointment. Somehow with this list I’m pretty sure he’ll be more than happy to be there for us. |

I've got us scheduled for 16 Jan. He'll be ready to start at 0800. He can usually do 2-3 vehicles per hour for the three baseline pulls. The group discount just applies to the three baseline pulls. The group discount does not apply to A/F monitoring or tuning.
For those of you trailering your rig there are several businesses nearby that are closed on Saturdays and he has an understanding with them that permits their parking lots to be used for tow rigs. Baseline pulls are very straight forward and quickly done. Tuning has the potential to become lengthy and can develop into problems. Because of this I think it is only fair that anyone desiring to do any tuning should be at the back of the line so that should you have any issues you aren't holding up those just doing baseline pulls. A/F monitoring is done with a tail pipe sniffer. 81 inches is the widest wheel track allowed on the dyno.
As I’ve said before, if you want to do any tuning please contact Arthur or Gary directly. Trackmasters, Inc 256-539-0398 http://www.etrackmasters.com/index.htm?page=_contact_message.htm

You can drop the Donstrosity.....I'll just bring the Dodge 2500 to keep things simple!
Do you know if I'll be able to make a run in 3rd or 4th gear (mines an auto)? The torque converter won't lock up in 1st or 2nd. The truck has an aftermarket DTT converter and valve body but there is still some slip while it's in 1st and 2nd gears?
thanks,
Don

It will probably be done in 3rd Don because it should be in whatever gear is 1:1.

I am going to get some tuning work done. I guess I will be last in line. What time do you think I should need to be there?

With the current number that is planning on showing up I would think around noon should work if you are interested reducing wait time. If you give up a good phone number I could give you a call around mid morning.
With that said - Guys I don't intend to become a social director for this event. For myself, I'm looking at this as a club activity just like a ride. I'm in at the trail head and don't leave until everyone is off the trail and ready to head home. Do I expect this from everyone? Nah! I don't know about the rest of you but I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone is able to turn. I'm betting it will beat watching cartoons by a long shot.

![]() The rear axle on my jeep is completely destroyed. Total carnage. No chance for a rebuild between now and the event. Sorry to flake out. |

i broke an axle shaft and bent the splines on the other a couple of months ago..there was a snafu with the axle warranty and I didn't get my new shafts in until a couple of days ago. When I went to put it all back together I found that I also broke the locker and carrier bearings and chipped the ring gear teeth. |

Case, I may have missed it, what brand of locker was it? I'm curious if it was a detroit that blew everything up via stored energy/tension when the axle popped.

it was the stock rubicon air locker whatever it is.
whatever happened it caused one of the carrier bearing races to shatter. Most of the race ended up in the axle tube. I pulled the axle but haven't taken pictures yet. It's pretty impressive. |
