Forever Wild Hearing on 3/31:
Your Help Needed!

Freshwater Land Trust Logo

To protect Forever Wild, there are four critical action items that we ask you to take this week. On Thursday, March 31st, there is a Forever WIld Public Hearing on SB140- the Forever Wild Reauthorization Bill- at 8:30 am. This hearing is critical for reauthorizing Forever Wild, as-is.

1. Please come to the hearing to show the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee your support for Forever Wild. The opposition plans to fill the room, so Forever Wild supporters need to be present in an even greater quantity.

Forever Wild Hearing on
Senate Bill 140
Thursday, March 31st
8:30 am
Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee
Room 807 (Joint Briefing Room)
Alabama State House
11 South Union Street
Montgomery, AL 36130
(334) 242-7800

We suggest that Forever Wild attendees arrive at 7:30 AM to have the best chance of being near the front of the line at the State House doors when they open at 8:00.  This will allow the best chance for making it through the metal detectors and getting up to the 8th floor in time to get a seat.

If you cannot make it to the hearing, then please
contact your Senator and ask ask him/her to support re-authorization of Forever Wild "as-is."

2. Please encourage members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to vote in favor of SB140.  We believe that phone calls are always best, but emails are also important.

Listed below are the members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee along with their Senate phone number and their email address.  When making calls to each, ask their secretary to take your name and give a note to the Senator asking them to vote YES on SB140 in Committee.

When you email them, click on the email link below and put the following in the subject lin:e “Vote YES on SB140 (Forever Wild).”  Please forward this to your colleagues and friends and encourage them to forward it to their friends and peers.

3. We have been notified of additional opposition to Forever Wild Reauthorization through email campaigns and some specific radio talk show call-ins and guests.  We need Forever Wild supporters to exercise grassroots, citizen response to these when encountered.  If you hear a negative Forever Wild message on a talk show, call in and express your support as a citizen that supports Forever Wild.  If you see something negative in a newspaper, write a quick letter to the editor expressing your support.  Most importantly, continue to build participation in Forever Wild support actions through your friends, family, and peer network so that they can and will do the same.

4. Please contact and thank the sponsors and co-sponsors of SB140 for their leadership on behalf of Forever Wild and for them standing up for the 84% of Alabama citizens that voted in favor of Forever Wild.  Ask them to continue to stand tall on this issue and encourage members of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to give it a favorable report from Committee.

They used to actually state that motorized access was allowed. That disappeared from their site about 8 years ago. Just about the time they got the land near Waterloo.
