Does anyone know of a good diesel mechanic in the Decatur area? I have a new employee that has a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 that is really down on power. She is moving to Moulton and thought a mechanic in the Decatur area would be best.

Don't know about good diesel mechanic but If she has not changed her fuel filter in a while I'd get it changed. When I let my 06 go for 25K miles w/o changing the fuel filter it fell on it's face hard. Changed out the filter and OEM plus Bully Dog Power is back. I change it every 15K now. I could go longer between changes with my old 96 but the newer trucks filter fuel to a much lower micron level meaning the filters clog up faster!
Being an 08 model I assume her truck uses the blue tech additive. Could be a problem with that system as the truck might turn the power down if it senses a problem. I know some of the big rigs do.

On my 06 F350 Powerstroke Turbo Diesel I used to own I had to periodically drain the water trap at the fuel/water separator...
If the above noted suggestions don't fix it...take it to City Diesel in Decatur: (256) 350-5160

I think the 08 still had the Mercedes Bluetec system which was a fancy expensive cat system that didn't use urea injection to meet emissions. could be a sensor or clogged widget in that chain somewhere. I know that's not the answer you wanted though!

Absolutely. They also cycle the fuel past the pressure regulator, so they will actually filter the entire fuel tank several times over before the tank is consumed. This is why its a good idea to add a pre-filter, with one of the readily available, bigger-pore, easily accessible screw-on filters. Some of the diesel fuel you get these days is not far from the old military "referee grade" fuel, full of all sorts of crap and water. |
