I haven't been to this one in a few years. In the past, it was one of the better shows in this area.

I caught one at the BJCC about 2-3 months ago and it was about 1/3 the size it used to be. They literaly closed in about 2/3 of the floor space with temporary dividers/walls. I'm not sure that one was hosted by the same organization as this one, because it was not advertised in the paper and it was cash only to get in, the ticket booths were not operational. The promos for this one hi-light having 'over 600 tables', so hopefully this is the 'good' show.

There used to be two B'ham gun show promoters. One of them (probably the show you just went to) was sorry and about half the tables were sunglasses, chinesee tools, t-shirts, etc. I went to that show once and that was enough.
The good show was put on by the Alabama Gun Collectors. There were none of the yard sale tables allowed.
Same kinda thing in Nashville. There was a good promoter and a sorry promoter. You had to know which show to attended.
At least that is the way it used to be. I haven't been in a few years. I'm looking for a snake gun.

A gun that shoots snakes? That should be fun to watch. Probably even more fun to watch you loading it. See Brad stuffing that snake down the barrel.......

A small caliber potato gun might work. I think I would start off with a rat snake before trying rattler or cottonmouth. If you are down at the store anytime soon, pick up the latest copy of Alabama Outdoors (I think it is). They have a good write up on snake in Alabama, which ones are the worse to get bit by, what you should do if bitten and a few more unpleasant details. |

This weekend's show is the good one, they don't really even allow knives unless it's in a display of some sort. So no jewelry to keep the wives entertained.

It was a good show. I saw all the snake guns I wanted to look at, a H&R 20 ga Snake Tamer, the new Rossi .410 version of a Snake Charmer and a Bond Snake Slayer .410 derringer. I decided on the ultimate snake defense weapon, a Glock 22 with 15 rounds of .40 cal CCI shotshells. But until I come up with some money to buy one, a garden how will have to do.
Do you know it is illegal to kill rattlesnakes, copperheads and cotton mouths in Tennessee unless they are basically attacking you in your yard or house?
If you ever go to a B'ham gun show, make sure it is the one promoted by the Alabama Gun Collectors. I talked to a couple of people there who said there are no other good gun shows in Nashville any more. They did say the Louisville show in February is huge; about 3,000 tables.

I'm glad to hear the show promoted by the Alabama Gun Collectors is still worth catching. When I walked in the door back in March or so there was so much different from earlier shows I suspected there were multiple promoters, and that show was not the 'good' show.

No beef jerky table, no sun glasses table, no chinesee tools table. Only one t-shirt vendor and he was on the very back row selling the "Don't Tread on Me", "Obama Sucks" and similar t-shirts. The rest were real collections of firearms and memorabilia, average gun traders, manufacturers and in-state commercial dealers.

I have read that they don't cycle properly in a 9mm. I have a 96F .40 cal that I'm going to try them in. There are a couple of youtube videos of folks firing the cci shot shells from a Glock 22 (40 cal) and it cycling just fine.
I test fired a couple out of a S&W 38 air weight snub-nose yesterday and was surprised at the recoil. I think CCI has uped the powder over what they used to be. Plenty of penetration and a fairly tight pattern (maybe 10" dia at 6'), but there were lots of holes in the center of the pattern.

The 40 cal CCI shotshells did cycle nicely thru my Beretta. The weird thing is, the pattern at 6' thru a S&W .38 snub nose was about the size of my hand. The 6' pattern thru the .40 Beretta with a barrel twice as long was about 3 times larger.

Good info. I was looking at the bond arms derringers yesterday, I really think they are cool. My latest lust is the Weatherby PA459, the first time I looked at one months ago I wanted it and after yesterday I'm still drooling over it. Add the skull camo for coolness factor.

I've had both pumps and autos jam and fail on me. Hell I took a brand spanking new Smith and wesson auto to a duck blind and it wouldn't even fire a shell so I had to use my old trusty rusty mossberg pump. Although it was sent back to mossberg recently because it refused to pump after shooting 3 1/2s. They fixed it for FREE.

Agreed, there are only two kinds of semi-auto’s; the ones that have jammed and the ones that will jam. Having said that, I had an 1187 for 15 years and ran everything thru it from low brass to 3” mags to slugs to 000 and it has never jammed; not a single time. But, I’m sure it will jam some day. There is only one kind of pump shotgun; it’s the one that WILL JAM WHEN YOU NEED IT MOST. When people get real excited, they short-stroke pumps and they jam. I have seen it dozens of times. That is a fact of life with pump shotguns. Was it John Browning who said, “A pump shotgun is the finest single shot weapon known to man”? |

Far be it from me to argue with the esteemed Mr. Browning, but short stroking a pump falls under the category of what people in the military refer to as a 'operator headspace and timing' issue. I have fired thousands of rounds through an 870 and can't remember ever having a 'jam'. On the other hand, I have seen/had multiple 'jams' with autoloaders, some of which were quite difficult to clear. In fairness the autoloaders usually jammed when dirty, and operators who kept their firearms clean very rarely had problems.
