Yall ought to read this.
As usual, the Obamanation has ignored the facts and embraced the emotion. "We hear a lot from regulators about the increased choice these new regulations will bring, but these choices seem to be answers to questions no consumer is asking. The few vehicles available today that meet these standards don't sell in large quantities because of their small size, poor performance, and high prices. Sales of the Toyota Prius and other hybrids briefly shot up when gas cost $4.00 a gallon, but as soon as gas prices started dropping, so did hybrid sales. Prius sales fell so sharply (even in relation to a market in overall decline) that Toyota last year halted construction of a Prius factory it was building in Mississippi. Today, the best-selling vehicles in the U.S. so far this year are the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks. Nobody is stopping buyers of these vehicles from purchasing Priuses instead."
Its really sad just how stupid our leadership is. They seem unable to tie actions to results, or causes to outcomes. They are living in a world of make-believe....if they want it bad enough, it surely will come to be!
If the American manufacturers, who are now at the beck and call of the US Federal Government, cannot make sales, then you and I are going to become the proud owners of huge never-ending bills to keep the paychecks flowing to the UAW. And they wont be able to make sales requirements, because nobody is going to buy crap that they dont want.
The American auto industry is dead and doesnt seem to know it yet.

Speaking of Prius I read an article in popular science that showed the total emissions foot print of the Prius, this includes all emission from manufacturing and 18 years of operation, and the Prius was worse than most FULLSIZE cars and Light trucks. Talk about hipocrital and ignorant. One of the lowest total foot print was the VW DIESEL Jetta.

I simply cannot understand the current administration's hostility towards diesel. The truth is that the Diesel, especially with its ability to run on completely renewable fuel (biodiesel) with potentially limitless different sources, is the RIGHT way to go. Biodiesel offers about a 3-1 ratio of energy output to energy required to produce and deliver it, compared to alcohol which is slightly less than 1:1 (ie it requires more energy to make it than it releases via combustion).
The reality is that the US Federal Government, led by the current administration, is intent on eliminating the automobile. They have destroyed the primary US automakers and now have control of them, with the possible exception of Ford. Now that they control them, they will simply run them into the ground and then mourne their loss with alligator tears. They will attempt to force us all onto mass transit systems. The whole concept of the independence and individualism which the automobile provides cannot be tolerated by the annointed.

I swear, I thought it was just me that thought that the "Change" campaign posters of Obama looked just like those old propaganda posters from the former USSR of their fearless leaders. Now, his actions seem to be taking us more and more in that direction. Government owning the banks and big businesses. Pretty soon we will all be wearing grey uniforms and buying our food from government owned stores. Wait .............. does Obama own Wal-Mart yet??
