"....We are not a nation or a military in decline." Gen Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff quoted here.
You, Sir, are in a state of denial. “Sequestration is quite simply the most irresponsible way possible to manage this country’s defense,” he said. “Mayhem is here to stay.” Great. Just bloody great. Sen Coburn wrote the Office of Personnel Management on Wednesday that before people are laid off or furloughed, OPM should first target workers who "are literally paid to do nothing or do not even show up for work." He wrote that over a seven-year period, the government lost more than 9,000 years of work as a result of AWOL employees. (AWOL is Absent WithOut Leave) At least someone in a position of authority understands the situation. |

The thing that pisses me off, is that the administration is making the sequestration needlessly difficult on the country. It is supposed to cut future project spending, but in reality is cutting day to day operations because a certain individual is unwilling to cut back his exorbitant "entitlement" programs. Hard working people are being effected, while those who are on the dole are not. And those same people being effected by all this are the ones paying for the dole!

They also failed to grasp the idea (as if any more salt needs to be poured in the wound) that there are 1000's upon 1000's of public sector jobs that support the military that those cuts trickle down to. Monday I was let go due to these affects. When military/defense budgets are cut, tradeshows are downsized and even cancelled. Our client base was 90% defense contractors. Last year I was travelling upwards of three weeks at a time and even more in the peaks of the year. I did 3 shows this year before being let go. The company drew a red line and said that company expenses including payroll needed to be below that red line. I was the lucky soul who gave them the cut they needed. I've never worked in an industry so directly affected by decisions made in DC. Unfortunately, I am no longer working in an industry that was directly affected by the decisions in DC. Or maybe I should say lack of decisions.
