Am I the only one who thinks this is just rediculous? Why should we have to do this?

You know if we suddenly went around jailing/deporting all the illegals and cut off their food stamps/welfare/free healthcare/free education we might put a big dent in that problem. I don't know how people don't get that illegal immigrants are just that-Illegal.

This stuff really ticks me off to no end. I have a cousin that moved here from Genoa, Italy and it took him 5 years of jumping through hoops and putting up with b.s. redtape before he became an official citizen. Granted, the 5-years is a mandatory requirement but it doesn't make up for the headaches and trouble he went through. It was so bad that he jumped for joy when he was finally able to pay income taxes. Yet if somebody lands on the beach in Miami or jumps a fence into Texas, they get put on the payroll of LEGAL U.S. citizens courtesy of what John said with the welfare benefits. My cousin didn't demand that we learn Italian. He learned English before moving here just like anyone else should. He also didn't look for government financial or housing assistance. He did what even some of our natural citizens should do. He got a job! He applied for a work visa and worked the harbors in Savannah, Georgia.
In Australia, it is a requirement that you speak ENGLISH or you are not allowed to take up residence and become an Aussie citizen. And FYI, the American dialect is not considered English to them.

I'm with you Doc, I already thought it was against the law to be an illegal immigrant. I read the article I don't see how this law can be enacted. It requires profiling to enforce. I've spent a fair amount of time in New Mexico and most of the folks who live there are of Mexican descent (hence the name of the state). I just can't see allowing the police to walk up to people and demanding to see immigration papers being legal... As part of a traffic stop, etc, fine, and I am pretty sure this is already legal. This smacks of political wrangling getting ready for this fall's election.

All of the immigration laws are federal laws that aren't enforced, nor do they have the manpower to enforce them. And I don't think our current administration gives a rats a$$ about illegals, except for giving them amnesty. I feel their pain, growing up in Southern California 5 miles north of the Mexican border you wouldn't believe the stuff that goes on. As an example, pregnant woman coming across the border to have their baby, which automatically makes the baby a US citizen. You think our government is going to deport the mother Ha Ha they let the rest of the family come across to support the mom and her new US citizen. I say more power to them. Rant over, immigration just his a sore spot.
