I made it over halfway the time I went .
Dont get all defensive . I saw your jeep parked out front of this place in the valley. It had a sign that said 'Chigs Fab Shop' . I just kinda put 2 and 2 together and assumed you told him to fix yours so you could go up that same rock he did at the Hale Mtn ride. Evil Smile

jr if you remember my brother destroyed you his first time entering and took your entry money. The year I entered I made it to the top and also beat your DNF.Didn't you have 2 DNF's that year? So how does that make me gay? Besides I was leaving this topic alone due to the fact of the embarrassment it would have caused to you.

Also lets not forget about the time I run into you in the valley and your speaker wire motor harness was giving you problems. And you had to back out of the creek bed and let the lowly "Skyline boys" pass you in the trails again.Wink  just saying since you decided to bring me up in this conversation.

Nah - We're all just going to sit around and rag on each other.  We can do that for weeks and weeks.  KOTH just lasts one day.

I do need a wiring harness.  Is the speaker wire one an upgrade or is it considered an OEM replacement item?

If I had to guess Id say prob not. Best I can tell theres not many on this board with 40k to build a buggy and not care whether or not it gets the link bars/axles ripped off on the first pass tring to get the fastest time.

However I may ride up there and watch the people who do have that kind of change. It seems to me that ya'lls competion has turned into somthing that the average wheeler cannot afford to do. My 2 cents .

My opinion , which isnt meant to hurt anybodys feelings, is that whenever you have a competion similar to what yall have , there will be people with deep pockets show up . Now Im not crying or whining cause I dont have the $$$$$ some of these people do. Ive build my rig up over the past 7 years and just dont see the sense of tearing everything Ive worked my arshe off for to buy in one or two passes . On top of that mine ,as well as many others , isnt build as strong as say a 'Jimmy Smith' or a 'Coleworx' rig.

That being said I really dont have an answer to make it better. Maybe in the earlier years it was less known and less of these pro built rigs showed up , I dont know.

Maybe make it some sort of TTC type deal with more that one event? There really isnt anything you can change that I can think of that would attract budget rigs.

And just to put this out there - I am by no means bashing your event. I only wish yall the best of luck. I have came out to watch and compete and it is a good show. I was just merely making a point that I dont think theres many of the 'Big Dawg' buggy people on this board .

There's been several people who use this board who have competed in the past in the smaller classes. Some have done well.

Anybody running either of the two smaller classes ?

i agree for the most part...

i would be competing in the unlimited class because i have a buggy with only a portion of stock frame, 4 linked front and rear w/ air shocks, but i dont have a $15k motor

does this mean that i will be slower than A.C., Woodlee, or Brian C.???.... actually no it doesnt , they could break, choose a bad line, etc. and there usually isnt a straight away where they can run "faster" than the average rig

i do think that the $50k buggies scare budget builders off because they appear to have all the best parts and are usually willing to beat their rigs a little harder than someone who has to work hard just to be able to afford to wheel (JR is an exception) LOL

i have said all of that to say this, i really dont want to spend $150 to beat the crap out of my rig and risk breaking and loosing $150 bucks.. i can go wheel for $10 a day and be as hard or easy as i would like on my rig... if it was a $50 entry fee than i would more than likely compete even though my rig is a trail rig instead of a race rig

but the lower the entry fee the lower the pay out... there fore the big dogs wouldnt waste their time to travel for a $250 check

i think you have a good thing going with KOTH and it is going nicely.... i would also like to see a seperate comp maybe with a cheaper entry fee for the little man..

38" or smaller tires entry $25
38" and larger tires entry $35

just some ideas

Guys-
We really appreciate all the comments and you're ideas on how to work the event so it will be appealing to everyone, competitors and spectators alike.  Now I wish we had started this thread months ago.  I'm not sure if we'll be able to change anything at this late date, but you can be sure we'll put all of this on the table for next year...I've already printed it out for my notebook.   We never intended to outgrow the everyday wheeler, so we may be able to come up with a new format to accommodate everyone.

For those not competing this year, please come out and watch!

Thanks again, and please continue to give us ideas...
LA

If JR brings that to the comp and competes, I'll pay half the entry fee ($25)!

I don't keep track of what you "truck of the month" club members have each week, it's too much like watching a soap opera.   LOL

But, feel free to put your money where your mouth is:  $25 from me, how much from you?

me and a couple of guys are planning to go watch.  One might be entering his truck, but isn't sure yet?

Is this a "cooler" friendly event?
I'll take the dirt road, it's all I know.

So whats the course layout for this year?  Balls to the wall to the top?  Or half way up and turn around?

There's a new start line a little further west that will lead up, then the course will zig-zag across, lead to the top, then back down.  Should prove very interesting and entertaining.

You can bring a cooler, but we will have concessions again too.  SFWDA will be there with raffle tickets for the Rescue Tellico 1990 Jeep Grand Wagoneer http://www.sfwda.org/rtjeep/index.htm.  We will also have raffle tickets for some great prizes and vendors will be on site with items to sell.

Hope we have lots of competitors and spectators this year!!!   We're looking forward to a great event...

If anyone has questions, you can post here, email info@koth4x4.com, or give me a call at 603-0146.

Thanks!
LA

Don't change anything........Look at how youv'e grown in a short time.Just my 2 cents......If you drop the entry sure there will be alot that wont show up as they may see it as a waist of time but you will gain alot who don't want to spend hard earned $ to beat their rig.To those who don't want to spend a hunnard or two it's not about the rig like 1ton said earlier, anything can happen. After many years of wheeling I can tell you that you should know the limits of your rig.Anyone at anytime can win this event,it's all about who can be consistant in manouvering through the rocks at a steady pace to have a fast time.Watch this year and you'll see the ones with fast times wont beat their rigs as bad as the ones who slam the pedal to the floor and try to keep it pointed up the hill.Driver skill and knowledge of his rig not horse power or balls get the check.Consistancy will get you there quicker.Oh well enough about that now I've got to go prep the CAR for the BIG event at RCRC this weekend.Pops

Having a separate course, if feasible, for the smaller wheelers with a lower cost structure would help keep the allure for the big boys and weekend wheelers alike.

Perhaps an area where you could even do a show/shine with an entry fee for best of show (based on the classes that run the courses perhaps?)

Making it an event for multiple classes of rigs can make it a larger appeal and make it not so 'exclusive'...

Just a thought...

I hear yea.......Like I said, anyone can win.Look at how many times AC has run in the past years. He was beat several times for less than a minute. He's lost ( finished 2nd) by as little as twelve hundreths of a second in XRRA this year.BUT,he finnally won his first XRRA last weekend. While I'm boastin here,he finished 2nd on the East coast again this year  and finished 9 seconds behind Shannon Campbell in Colorado Springs a few months ago.The 9 sec came from having to stop and make sure B Shirley wasn't in his lane and then finish. So I  guess what I'm trying to say is ANYONE can win at anytime.Don't ever count your rig or driving ability out before you make your first run.

Thanks everybody for coming! Thumbs Up

All in all - I think we had a great event this year.  Minus a little rain we had toward the latter half of the week, can you beat that weather we had yesterday?  Wow!

And...so you can wow your co-workers at work on Monday...here are the final results and times from the Huntsville SCCA timing guys:

Final Results

Raw Results

Thanks everybody for coming.
