Post some up so I don't have to try any more. We went to the new Shaggys yesterday on Enterprise Way. For $20.00 we got 2 burgers that were no bigger Whopper Jrs., over cooked with overly spiced pickles. Mixed fries which were also identical to Burger Kings but also with (gross) sweet potato fries, all cold. Just terrible and yet the place was crowded.

When I read Shaggys menu knew that I wasn't ever going there. With Firehouse Subs and 5 Guys Hamburgers within walking distance of Shaggys; I don't think they will be around long.
As for bad restruants: Landrys. Been there twice. Only went back the second time because some friends had a Xmas party/dinner there.
Good restruants: Old Green Brier, El Placio, Firehouse Subs, 5 Guys Hamburgers, Tenders... Edited by 98TJ - 10 January 2010 at 4:54am |

I have a co-worker who went with her family. She said there was forty-five minute wait for lunch (I think). All of her family said that they were happy with the food and the prices, but that is all I know. I don't remember anything else more specific. We went to Wintzell's Oyster House for New Year's dinner, and it was really good. Our table had the bad luck of having some glitches, but everything was taken care of quickly and satisfactory. I had the Seafood Au Gratin, and it was awesome. It's possibly a little pricey, but the food is good. -Sam |

Shirley and I went there also. Yep, VERY good food, but definately not a cheap place to eat at night. I think their lunch menu is a little more reasonable. Dem fried oysters is good eatin'.

I've never been to Shaggy's but one look at that place (even before it opened) and it looked like a train wreck waiting to happen. Thanks for the confirmation.
I'll add a huge second to Landry's. Went there once a long time ago and their gumbo tasted like brown watery gravy.
Curious about Cheddars but not curious enough to wait 45 min to get in.
Some good...
Papa Gyro's (close to Newks) is really good if you like greek food
Surin (either location) for sushi and Thai food
Viet Huong (close to HH Greg)
PoBoy factory (5 points)
Tenders
Casa Blanca for Mexican food
Nothing but noodles
5 guys
Bandito Burritio
Beauregards
Thomas Pit BBQ (Madison on Univ)
Ol Heidelburg
Bone Fish
Teranovas (Italian)
What happened to all the Guthries around here? The one on Univ and Co Line both are closed.
Places I'm not a fan of...
Rosies
Crickets
Newks
Cantina Laredo
Dreamland
Landry's
just for starters...

One place that has really gotten bad is Friday's. The last time I was there, all of the liquor bottles on the bar were almost empty. As a chain, they have taken everthing that I used to like off the menu, and have replaced them with stuff designed to make a better profit. The Huntsville location is particularly bad, but the pretty much stink nationwide. Used to be a dependable choice when TDY on the road, but I'll never go back.

I liked Guthries also. Their location on University was kinda strange. When that Frizles opened up just down the road; that might have hurt their business on University. Now there is a new Zacxby's right across from where Guthries was located.
Between Tenders, Zacxby's and Guthries.......I liked Guthries chicken the best.

I would go to PF Chang's everyday! We always love Pauli's for a nice evening out... I've never been disappointed! But it is quite pricey. We also like Outback. We visit Ruby Tuesday's a lot because I like the salad bar and they have a variety of good things on the menu. A great place for lunch is Main Street in Madison... very good food.
Lindsey loves Rosie's. She's also been to Cheddars and thought it was good (despite the long wait).

On the Guthries questions.... they were having lots of Franchise problems. A good friend of mine owned the one across the street from Grissom. He always did a good business, but due to the problems, he got out and re-opened as "FlyBoys" (he's a Fed Ex pilot, previously a Navy pilot). He's expanded the menu and has some really great stuff.

Oh man i forgot about dreamland.
So much hype for that restaurant before it opened...all the bama people telling me what I've missed all my life having not eaten there in T-Town. It opens up and I'm there like the first week all excited. My happy smile quickly turned to WTF? as they handed me an oversmoked piece of meat and a piece of whitebread. No sides or anything else except nanner puddin. What a meal. ![]() |

I've been to Landry's twice. The seafood is way overpriced and not fresh. BUT I did find their burger is the best I've had in Huntsville.
The best mexican food in town is El Camino Real. I usually get Chilaquiles or Chile Colorado. Very good lunch buffet too, and margaritas by the pitcher for a good price. El Palacio and La Alameda basically slop you and send you on your way, yuck.
The chicken nacho appetizer by a different name at Phil Sandoval's is out of this world. Hard to explain, chicken with chihuahua cheese and a hint of rasberrry sauce. Not so authentic, but likely my favorite dish in town anywhere. I haven't had anything else on their menu yet.
I never liked Rosie's, but only went once.

I will concur with the "thumbs down" on The Station. It's overpriced for bad quality food.
Some places I like in Huntsville:
Wings - they have $5 lunch specials and the black&white chicken is hard to beat.
Surin - best Sushi in town (imo) and they have great lunch specials as well.
Rolo's - chicken and dressing on wednesday's
Scene Lounge - the Monaco Burger is really good
Five Guys - no explaination needed
Sam & Greg's - my favorite pizza place
Shea's Express - haven't had a bad meal there
Stanlieo's - Kitchen Sink!
I've been to Cheddars a couple of times. The service is lacking. The first 2 times I went we had people in our group not get their food because they forgot. But they do make up for it by not charging and offering free dessert. And they also run out of certain foods randomly. It is cheap and the quanities are large.

Huntsville doesnt have a good Mexican restaurant, but if you get out west try these.
Papa Julios - Ft. Worth
http://www.losdosmolinosaz.com/ (Phoenix - you better like it hot to eat here!)
http://www.pappasitos.com/home/ ( There is one of these in Marietta @ Windy Hill Rd an I-75. Pappas other chains are good, too)
http://www.abuelos.com/ ( There is one of these in Chattanooga )

I've eatin' at the one in Marietta and thought it sucked. But what do I know; I think El Placio is the best mexican I've ever eatin. I think I just like redneck mexican, not real mexican.
Now Papadoes or whatever that cajin place is next to pappasitos in marietta is GREAT. UuuuuuWeee, dat crawdad biscque is gooooood eatin' ah!

Wife went there. Said wait was too long for what you got. Burgers and such were okay, but we tend to do burgers at home. We spice em up good, and mix ground sirloin, veal, and pork together for a really good burger. Add some Dale's seasoning (not too much), and some sauteed onions into the burgers and nothing from a restaurant compares. Others: Dolce - all I can say is WTF? We don't do many restaurants, but we do like 801, Vinotini's, PFChangs (daughter works there), and that new Smokehouse place by Monaco. |

NOT a fan of Thomas Pit BBQ - way too salty. I am a HUGE fan of the Chuckwagon (hole in the wall place) at 20 and Wall-Triana/Sullivan. GOOD Texas BBQ. Brisket, chicken, sausage, and pork. 3 sides - slaw, beans, or tater salad. And peanut butter pie. Not too much a fan of Casablanca or Rosies, but I've had great TexMex in Dallas/Ft. Worth and true Mexican on my sailing trips to Mexico. So I guess I'm spoiled. Newks is decent, but be wary of their chicken pizzas. The chicken gets VERY dried out.. almost like roofing shingles. Terranova is okay, but I've had better (and FAR worse!). Italian wives will do that. :) Ol' Heidelberg is okay if you stick with the brats and such. Nothing else there really floats my boat. Do love Mellow Mushroom, right by my house. Kalou's grocery store has a decent deli with some really good sammiches - and surprisingly reasonable. Grill 29 is WAY overpriced. Other than that, Scoutman and I agree on quite a few. Edited by erickpl - 15 January 2010 at 1:56am |

if you have an issue with salt, there is. :) hehe Guess that's why I'm not a fan of Thomas Pit either. if we don't use Dale's we'll add some Sticky Ribs BBQ sauce to our burgers. Both work well. I'll occasionally grill up some jalepenos to put on top too since we do them in our garden. Man, now I'm hungry! I'm thinkin' Chuckwagon today! Edited by erickpl - 15 January 2010 at 1:58am |

Brewbakers on 20 by Publix is good also. Turkey sandwich on a french roll with pasta salad always hit the spot with me. They have good bagels too!
We liked Gone Fishin, but they have closed their place on Hwy 20 in order to focus on opening the new location on Hwy 72 by Marcos pizza. Tthey do have good fried catfish, shrimp and blackened Tilapia.
