I got chance to talk with one of the Marines who helped organize last years event the other day. He is on a Police Transition Team headed to Iraq with one of the Warriors (who is fully recovered now) we brought to Huntsville last year. One of the other Warriors from last year was a local boy from the Florence area, these are your Marines! I'm here to tell you this experience and the way this community welcomed them with open arms changed those young Marines lives forever. Even if you just get a chance to come out and shake their hand please do.

I support what WWP is doing, but the people that run it are a bunch of assholes. I tried repeatedly to get them to contact me about RCRC supporting local WWP efforts, and I got nothing but a runaround that would have made the IRS proud. I gave up.

Doc,
I understand. My wife got some tickets for there jeep give away for me but they are two totally seperate organizations. The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) is a NFP organization serving veterans of the current conflict, while the Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR) is an actual United States Marine Corps unit created to assist the individual Marine and their family with re-habilitation and transition to civilian life if necessary. The Semper Fi Community Task Force http://www.sfctf.org/ is North Alabama's ambasador to the WWR which has two battalions of Marines, one on the east coast and one on the west. Niether the task force or the WWR are affiliated with the WWP but I'm sure there are individuals from the regiment that may benefit from the "project". Mike |
